Here at Balance for Life, which offers all-inclusive health and wellness retreats in Florida, we are big believers in the benefits of eating a plant-based diet.  In fact, we offer vegan retreats that will help you to reboot, recharge and rejuvenate.

Of course, we aren’t the only ones who believe that vegan and vegetarian weight loss plans are an effective and healthy choice.

Environmental Benefits of a Plant Based Retreat

According to the Physicians Committee for Responsible Medicine, eating more plants can save lives and the planet. Among other benefits, they say that if we all ate more plants, it could:

  • Lessen the impacts of climate change. “Researchers found that food production is responsible for up to 30 percent of total greenhouse gas emissions, with animal products accounting for the vast majority—about three-quarters—of these effects. The report states that projections for the future show that “vegan and vegetarian diets were associated with the greatest reductions in greenhouse-gas emissions.”
  • Reduce water consumption. “Meat and dairy products lead the way in guzzling up large quantities of water. Producing just a pound of beef requires 1,800 gallons of water.”

Health Benefits of a Plant-Based Diet

The American Heart Association says that eating a plant-forward (plant-based) diet can be good for your health. “Whether you’re considering eating less meat or giving it up entirely, the benefits are clear: less risk of disease and improved health and well-being,” the report.

Eating a plant-based diet, they say, decreases your risk for the following conditions:

Experts at UCLA Sustainability also make the case for plant based eating. “Eating a plant-based diet is not just good for our health; it is good for Earth’s health,” they say.  “In fact, ‘Shifting away from animal-based foods [could not only] add up to 49% to the global food supply without expanding croplands;’ but would also significantly reduce carbon emissions and waste byproducts that end up in our oceans and as seafood byproducts (Jalava et al, 2014).”

People have lots of different reasons for turning to a plant-based diet. Whether you’re concerned about climate change, interested in a heart-healthy diet or are interested in a vegetarian weight loss plan, Florida’s Balance for Life holistic retreats can help you get started with a 1, 5, 7, 14, or 21 day wellness vacation at the Wyndham Deerfield Beach Resort.
