Best way to start the year!!

I really wanted to recharge, detox my mind and body from the last months and I was delighted to experience exactly that at the Wyndham Deerfield with the Balance for Life program. The hotel is truly comfortable and recently renovated, with all the safety precautions in place. It was such a pleasure waking up each day to a fabulous view of the gorgeous Deerfield Beach, and the sun shining on the ocean.

I spent a week eating only vegetarian food with the Plant Base plan and no SOS, but deliciously prepared by Chefs Túlio and Jimmy. I never felt hungry or deprived and by the second day was already feeling very refreshed. Everyday we had different instructors offering yoga, Pilates, Aqua fitness and stretching, besides informative presentations discussing various health topics to live a longer and healthier life. I must also mention the wonderful massage therapist, who helped relieve muscle tension after all the workouts.

The week flew by, and I came back home feeling energized, relaxed and 5 lbs lighter! Thank you Terry (organizer), Jeanne nutritionist, Blanca and Linda aqua fitness, the yoga teachers and the inspiring Dr.Drucker, whose impressive knowledge focusing on the immune system can really help to save your life!

We Each Lost Between 6-7 lbs

My husband and I had just completed a week-long water & juice only fasting at Balance for Life. It was our first and we would definitely come back to this program next year or earlier. We learned so much from Dr. Drucker and Ms. Jeanne from testing of where we are with our health to how we looked for ways to eat and live a healthier life (and so much more that I can’t describe here).

Our main contact, Terry, arranged everything and communicated with us well before and during our time there. We also enjoyed Aqua Class by Linda and the yoga class by Nancy. The “SOS” dishes prepared by Chef Jimmy is so delicious.

Chef Jimmy and everyone at the restaurant were so friendly and accommodating to our juicing and eating schedules. The hotel is located right on the beach with beautiful sunshine.

The 3-day water-only fasting made us much healthier and at the end of the week, we each lost between 6-7 lbs. Thank you Balance for Life. We look forward to a next one with you.

Wonderful experience. 

Once you enter the Wyndham hotel (beachfront) you are immediately greeted and told where to go. They make sure every guest gets an oceanfront room. Make sure you come at the correct checkin time because if you come early you might wait, but you’re waiting for the best room in the hotel so just book your flights accordingly. We did the water fast for 5 days and the speakers and participants were supportive, informative, and inspiring! Btw I thought we were going to get just bottled water for the water fast, but instead they gave us perfectly filtered water from a Berkey!! We did fun swimming aerobics in the morning, had our vitals checked by their amazing nurse, listened to the interactive speakers, optional yoga, then just enough free time not to be bored, also had an awesome massage in our room. There are many shops around and the beach is just stunning. We are contemplating coming back for either their juice fast or SOS diet retreat.

I would recommend this retreat to anyone

Beautiful ocean, vegan meals and, peace of mind. Terry ensures all attendees have a 5 star experience. My typical day was waking up, walking by the deerfield beach, taking a dip in the ocean and having date-fruit vegan pancakes outdoors- taking in the fresh air. After, an option yoga/meditation class was offered , and after that, an education session on health and wellness. Lunch-time was a large salad of chickpea, sweet potato and dressing. I would then nap, read, or put my sunglasses on and walk around the artsy beach shacks and nearby stores. Of course, ample trips to swim in the ocean. It is clean, very blue, and has a good upper-class crowd at Deerfield. I was surprised, as had not seen this kind of water in Miami, it was more similar to Bahamas. Finally we end the day with lovely Dr. Nan who diligently checks vitals, and ends with a deep-breathing/stretch class. She is a lovely human. If you need a refresh/reset to connect with your higher power- please make it over here.

Q: What would I do to optimally prepare for fasting prior to arrival?

Reduce your intake of all habitual and addictive substances 1 to 2 weeks before fasting. The more you reduce the garbage that you intake the easier the fast will be on you and your body. So gradually stop drinking alcohol and try to cut down on or stop smoking entirely.

  • For those who choose our water fasting program, please submit in advance your current blood work for our medical director to review and approve.

  • This procedure will reduce any potential withdrawal symptoms you may experience during the fasting process, as well as reduce the toxins in your body that the fast is going to work to eliminate.

  • Habitual and addictive substances include alcohol; caffeinated beverages such as coffee, tea, and soda; cigarettes, or cigars

 

Alter your diet 1 to 2 weeks before fasting. As with removing addictive substances, you’re going to need to make a difference in your diet so that your body won’t have to work as hard to get rid of the toxins and bad substances that are so a part of eating these days. 

 

  • A good way to ease into this is to eliminate a few things a day (refined sugar products in the first couple days, meat in the next couple, and then dairy, etc.).
  • Reduce your intake of chocolate and other foods that contain refined sugar and are high in fat, like sodas, chocolate, candy, and baked goods.
  • Eat smaller portions of meals so that your digestive system doesn't have to work as hard, and so that your body starts to become accustomed to operating on fewer calories than it usually does.
  • Reduce your intake of meats and dairy products, because these can clog up your system and are harder for your body to digest.
  • Eat increased portions of cooked or raw fruits and vegetables. These will help your process better and have fewer toxins that it wants to get rid of. Limit your diet 1 to 2 days before fasting. This is when you really want to make sure that your body is prepared and this is why people can’t just jump into a fast without preparing ahead of time (or if they do, they have a much harder time during the fast itself).
  • Eat only fruit and vegetables, because they will cleanse and detoxify your body in preparation for the fasting period. *If possible, we also highly recommend hydro colon therapy prior to your fast. This will help improve your routes of elimination.
Q: What should I pack?

A: Beach attire. After booking, you should receive an email giving you more assistance with “What to Pack and Last Minute Reminders.”

Q: What type of water is BFL using?
A: The Berkey water filter is our preferred water filtration system. It removes viruses, harmful pathogenic bacteria, cysts, and parasites as well as unhealthy chemical contaminants and impurities while leaving in the essential minerals your body needs.
Q: When I arrive, where do I go to receive my food or juice?

A: Patio Bar and Grill is a full-service restaurant for the entire hotel. However, Juice for our guest is picked up by the guest, daily, at 8 am. Plant based eaters are free to enjoy their meals in the Patio Bar (Breakfast 8 AM, Lunch 12 pm, Dinner 5 PM) or request their meal to go. There is no room service available at this time.

Q: I’m here now, what am I supposed to do?

A: Take a deep breath and relax. You should receive a bag upon Before your arrival you should have received a call notifying you about an orientation time. That is the first activity of the retreat.

Q: Where do we meet for classes?

A: Although our classes are hosted at several different locations in the hotel, please arrive at the Poinciana Room at designated times for activities. Staff will direct you on what to do next.

Q: What do I do with my free time?

A: Balance for Life is a unique experience for each individual. While some may want to enjoy the beach others may enjoy resting in their room (journaling, self-reflecting, ect) and some may want to tour the beautiful south Florida area. If you find yourself looking for excursions/activities to engage in during your free time, please ask our staff members to provide you with BFL approved recommendations.

Q: What to expect during my detox?

A: Detox, is an individual experience. In your orientation, we will discuss common detox symptoms. If there are any questions that you may have about detoxing, please address these concerns with our Medical Director.

Q: What if I want to switch my protocol (water, juice, Plant based SOS) while I am at BFL?

A: A 24-hour email notification is required to switch any protocol.

Q: What do I do when I drive up to the hotel?

A: When you arrive, drive to the hotel main entrance and let the valet know you’re a Balance For Life guest. They will take your bags and bring them to the front desk for you. You can go into the hotel where you check-in and let the front desk know you are a Balance For Life guest. They will hold your bags and give you a parking pass. After checking-in you can then drive your car to the hotel’s secured parking lot.

Q: How do you deliver exceptional results?

Q: What are the requirements for water fasting?

In order to water fast on the Balance For Life Program, the following lab reports must be provided in advance:

  • CBC with Differential
  • Complete metabolic profile ( including Creatinine and GFR)
  • Complete Lipid  profile
  • Thyroid profile and hs or cardiac CRP
  • All blood work must be recent, within two months, prior to coming to our retreat.

MEDICATIONS: We do not accept anyone taking medications other than hormone replacement including thyroid hormone treatment.
SUPPLEMENTS: Supplements are not advised during the fasting period.
Q: What is the cancellation policy?

Cancellation Policy:

In the event of unexpected circumstances, we understand that you may have to cancel your reservation. A full refund (minus 10% chargeback fee) will be issued if your reservation is canceled (for any reason) before 15 days of your stay. If you cancel within 14 days of the reservation,  you will not be issued a refund. However, we will hold your funds in an account for 1 full year from the original date of booking. This can be applied to a future reservation within that year. No credits will be given for late arrivals or early departures.

 

Important Notes:

  • No refunds or deposits will be refunded or granted upon, once you start the program, during and/or after arrival. If an issue arises during your stay, our team and the hotel staff will work to the best of our ability to provide you with 100% customer satisfaction.
  • By submitting partial or full payment towards your stay, you agree to the cancellation policy terms.

    Balance for Life History

    Balance for Life Retreats began as The Fit for Life Program which came to public attention in the mid-1980s with the publication of Fit for Life, a New York Times best-seller which sold millions of copies. Harvey Diamond, one of the authors of the Fit for Life series of books and other media was a director of the Fit For Life Health Resort and Spa which began in Pompano Beach, Florida in 1993 until it was sold and became Spa Atlantis.

    The Fit for Life program has undergone many changes since its early beginnings and is now enjoying a revival under the founder of the Fit for Life Spa, Harold Lebovic. The new program, Balance for Life Retreats is at the award-winning Wyndham Deerfield Beach Resort Florida, just north of Ft. Lauderdale.

    During the early years of Fit for Life Health Resort and Spa, thousands of people came through our doors every year seeking relief from chronic health issues, needing to lose weight, detox, or just relax.

    Although the program content has changed in order to to keep up with changing times and new scientific research, we have never lost sight of the need to create a safe haven for our guests becoming a ‘home away from home’.

    Harold Lebovic | Founder

    Real estate entrepreneur/investor and founder of Lebovic Realty Group. 

    In 2010, after a very successful career in real estate, Harold shifted gears and purchased two fitness and spa retreat centers. In 2018,  a third retreat center, Balance for Life, was opened. Harold has great aspirations for BFL to become a household name in helping individuals to achieve optimal health.

    Balance for Life has become his passion. “ At BFL we are connecting all the dots.     Dr. Frank Sabatino | Wellness Director

    Dr. Frank Sabatino is a plant based physician and past Health Director of the Shangri-La Natural Hygiene Institute, the Regency Wellness Resort, and the Balance for Life Health Retreat where he cared for, lectured and inspired thousands of people for over 45 years.

    Dr Frank Sabatino is a chiropractic physician with a PhD in Neuroendocrinology from the Emory University School of Medicine. He is one of the world’s leading experts in water only fasting and the Director of the Balance for Life lifestyle and fasting retreats in Deerfield Beach, FL.

    He has also written numerous articles for lay magazines and journals in the areas of clinical.

    nutrition, healthy weight loss, women’s hormones, epigenetics, stress management, addiction, and healthy aging.

    He has been featured in a variety of books, news articles, and cable TV programs including CNN. Dr. Sabatino is a past member of the prestigious Brookdale fellowship in Gerontology and Aging. As a member of the International Association of Hygienic Physicians, he is also widely recognized as an expert in water only fasting and integrative health care. His book: WEIGHTLESS: Compassionate Weight Loss for Life (in press) and his online course: Lean for Life: The Science of Effective Weight Loss promote the most comprehensive plant-based solution and lifestyle strategies for solving the pandemic of obesity. Dr Sabatino is currently The Director of Health Education for The National Health Association (NHA), the oldest plant-based health organization, as well as a research consultant for the True North Health Foundation and the Complementary Medical Association (CMA) in England.
